Rescuing animals is a tough business. For all the cuteness, there just aren't enough new owners out there for all the homeless cats, dogs, kittens and puppies. A Second Chance Puppies & Kittens Rescue focuses on the most vulnerable victims of the overpopulation problem: kittens and puppies that are too young to go up for adoption at shelters and therefore have little chance at rescue before their time is up. Hundreds of puppies and kittens are put to sleep every day at shelters in our area. Hundreds can be put to sleep a day just at ONE shelter. People walk in with a box of puppies or kittens thinking they are helping them find new homes, when the sad reality is, pets too young for alteration are not available for adoption by the general public, and space is so limited and the shelters so underfunded that surrenders are eligible for euthanasia within 24 hours of arrival.
We do what we can given the funds and supplies that we have, but the costs of vetting, shots, alteration and fostering are sizable, and treating a sick cat or dog will take any extra funds we have collected from adoption fees, so additional support for money and supplies is still needed.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
A Second Chance is a non-profit, and like all non-profit animal rescues, money is tight and the need is great. There are specific things you can help us with to make a difference for homeless animals.
#1 Donate money! The universally accepted gift will go towards the pressing needs of the day:
Donate through PayPal. You chose the amount, and if you want it to go towards something specific, feel free to edit the item description. A Second Chance is a 501(3)(c) group so your donation is tax deductible.
#2 Volunteer! We need help at our events. They are usually on Saturday and Sunday, usually three locations to choose from.
Go to our Events page to find out where we'll be, and register on the website to get in our system and start receiving emails.
#3 Foster! We are an all-foster organization, meaning we do not have a shelter. Though we can put a limited number of cats or kittens at Petco, we only put the ones that are ready to go and its based on space. You can give a kitten a chance or provide a relief to an older cat that needs a few weeks off from life in a cage at Petco.
Go to this page to find out more about what it takes to be a foster, and print out an app (or just show up at an event with your application). Fosters are always in demand, so if you want to foster, you can also call the information line and leave your information and someone will get a hold of you.
#4 Buy Stuff!
